Menu: Sub sandwiches, chips, drink and dessert -- Miguel Pilar is a candidate for State Representative in the 78th District, which includes Hastings, Lowell, Ionia, Portland and Nashville in Ionia County (Southeast of Grand Rapids). He's familiar to many in Kalamazoo County as he's been the Southwest Michigan representative for Turning Point Action for several years, attending many KGOP events. Officer VanHoose has served with the Michigan State Police as a Motor Carrier Officer since August 28, 2016. She began her career at the Niles Post after graduating from recruit school and transferred to the Marshall Post in November 2019. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous recruiting events and been involved in several initiatives, including stolen vehicle investigations, weight enforcement projects, and trafficking-related operations. Toward the end of 2025, she also became the Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) coordinator for my district. She is committed to using her training and experience to help identify, prevent, and combat human trafficking within Michigan’s transportation network.

TODAY - FRIDAY COFFEE - Juneteenth is Friday. It's the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger (a Republican), landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free! Granger's military force and stubborn resolve formed the basis for the annual "Juneteenth" festivities. Dr. Linda Lee Tarver is an extraordinary speaker and will discuss the history of Juneteenth. Tarver is a nationally recognized public policy leader, election integrity expert, and seasoned executive with three decades of service advancing civic engagement, community impact, and principled leadership. She has held many roles in local, state and national Republican political activism. She was a leader in “Black Women for Trump” in 2020. With a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and Theology, and a Master’s in Organizational Psychology, she has built a distinguished career at the intersection of government, public policy, and community advocacy. She served in senior leadership roles within the Michigan Department of State, including Director of Community Affairs and Election Integrity Liaison, where she advised on policy, led statewide initiatives, and strengthened relationships across diverse communities.
